The Symptoms of Diabetes

Diabetes is classified into two types type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The most consistent symptoms of diabetes for both the types is high blood sugar levels. Type 1 diabetes is due to no insulin production in the body and in type 2 diabetes body develops a resistance to insulin known as insulin resistance due to which the production of insulin becomes low.

The symptoms of diabetes are due to high blood sugar levels in the body. These symptoms makes easy to recognize diabetes.

In ignored cases of diabetes it leads to severe complications and health risks.

The most common symptoms of both the types of diabetes are

Fatigue : As glucose remains in the blood and it is not converted to energy, a person feels tired and tends to sleep

Weight loss : Diabetic people are unable to process many of the needed calories required for the body the weight loss in common symptom.

Increased Urination: It is due to kidneys spilling the excess sugar present in the blood. Hence there is an increase in amount of urine in made. This leads to dehydration in the body as sugar takes away large amount of water content along with it.

Increased thirst: This is due excessive urination. To overcome the loss of water the body tries to compensate by thirst.

Excessive eating : It is common in type 2 diabetic patients as they suffer from a condition known as insulin resistance. Here the body makes extra insulin. One of the functions of insulin is to stimulate hunger.

Poor wound healing: High glucose level is harmful to the body in many ways. It affects the immune system of the body. Immune system of the body defends against the bacteria and helps in cleaning up dead tissues and cells. It affects wound healing in the body

Nerve damage: A person who is diabetic gets easily irritated, agitated or confused most of the times. One of the main reasons for it is high glucose levels in the body.

Infections : Infections are most common in diabetes because of high sugar levels in the body which affects immune system of the body. Due to which Skin infections, yeast infections and frequent urinary tract infections are common.

Diabetes diagnosis is done mainly by two types they are urine and blood test. The urine test shows samples of glucose in it. The blood test is of three types. In all the types the blood glucose level is high and above normal range.
