Diabetes Major Symptoms

Diabetes is due to high glucose level in the blood stream. Most of the symptoms of diabetes appear very slowly making diabetes very difficult to recognize in initial stages. Diabetes is mainly when there is low insulin content in the body.

Pancreas secrete a hormone known as insulin which regulates blood sugar level in the body. Pancreas has a group of cells which are known as islet of langerhans. Among them beta cells secretes insulin.

There are three main types of diabetes. Type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is more in young adults. So it is also known by the name Juvenile diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a condition where the body stops secreting insulin or insulin production is very little.

The patients with type 1 diabetes need to inject insulin doses, Insulin is a must dose over here so it also known by the name insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.

The type 2 diabetes is second type of diabetes which usually occurs in adults. Adults above 40 plus age are more victims of it. So it is also known as adult onset diabetes. This type of diabetes is due to pancreas not making sufficient insulin to maintain blood sugar level normal.

The major signs and symptoms of diabetes are

Excessive thirst

Increased urination

Blurry vision

Increased appetite

Slow healing of wounds

Impotence in men

The third major type of diabetes is gestational diabetes which is to women. It is during second half of pregnancy. Women with gestational diabetes are at risk of having large babies. If gestational diabetes is unchecked it leads to type 2 diabetes.

Diet is one of the major cause of diabetes. Diabetic people need to take well balanced diet. Diet that is well balanced in terms of nutritional values. They need to take food that is rich in fiber. Examples of fruits and vegetables rich in fiber are broccoli, peas, beans, carrot, apple, apricot, dates, raisins.

The other main cause of diabetes is changes in lifestyle. Sedentary kind of lifestyle leads to diabetes. Diabetic people need to involve in physical activities. Examples of physical activities are running, skipping, swimming. The other major advantages of exercises are good blood circulation. It also makes a person active and look healthy.
